How To Hire A Professional
Paint Contractor
5 Things To Look For
- Check References - Ask for a list of several customers that he
has painted for in the past few months.
- Make sure that he has liability insurance and/or workers
compensation. This is to protect you, the home owner.
- Get a signed list of everything that he intends to do. Make sure
it is in order of what is to be done, i.e.: scraping/washing, 1 coat
of primer, 2 coats finish - Remember: No communication is bad for
you and your painter.
- If you want quality products used - make sure you get it!
Get a list from your painter of how much you need and go to the
paint store and buy it! That way, you know what you are getting.
- Finally, and most importantly, never give any money up front!
No matter what the reason for needing it, a dependable and reputable
painter has open accounts at any store and should need no money down
to start your job. If it is a 2-3 week job, a reasonable draw at the
end of each week could be acceptable, but if they insist on money to
start - I suggest you insist they start somewhere else!
